Although you use your teeth every day, there are still some things you might not know about them. In fact, they can be quite the mystery! To help you know a little more about your chompers, Dr. Robert C. Freeman is happy to share some facts you might not know.
The first is that your toothbrush and floss are your smile’s weapons against dental issues, but saliva is your teeth’s first line of defense. Your saliva constantly protects your smile from bacteria and other harmful particles because it washes them away regularly. This is why it’s important to stay hydrated and prevent the dry mouth condition as much as possible.
The second is that snacking and sipping can put your teeth in danger. This is because if you constantly eat and drink all day (drink anything other than water), then your teeth are continually exposed to bacteria, acid, and sugar, which are all dangerous substances that wear down the enamel and promote dental issues. So, please limit snacking and sipping as much as possible.
The third is that your teeth and oral health are linked to your entire health, which means dental issues can affect more than just your mouth. For example, gum disease, which is an infection in the gums, has been linked to serious health issues, like heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and even premature birth. So, if you take good care of your smile, there is a better chance your health will stay in tip-top shape.
